Who is the One who is worthy of it all? The one who deserves heart felt worship from every generation, from every tongue and people, from every corner of the globe, forever and ever?
Yes, you are right — God the Almighty, the Creator, and Christ Jesus, His Son.
Every single day we have the privilege to do that. Every day we can choose to ascend to the heights, and enter into that holy place.
Here is how today’s addition to our practice of praise begins:
“All the saints and angels
bow before Your throne
All the elders cast their crowns
Before the Lamb of God and sing…”David Brymer, Worthy of it All
Makes you want to stop everything and join in, doesn’t it? We on earth can sound it forth, this day, while it is still called “today”! What a beautiful celebration we join, even as those who have gone before us into glory exalt our beautiful Lord.
A similar theme, where we sing of a million angels falling down before the great and awesome God, is found in Echo Holy. Why not sing both of them?
Scripture in Lyrics
Artist David Brymer wrote this song, having introduced it in 2012 on his Magnificent Obsession album. He includes an interlude without any words, just instrumentation.
This gives us a moment to name those things about Him that we love. Why does He deserve your adoration today? In this interlude, you can share with Him your heart.
Here is the chorus:
You are worthy of it all.
You are worthy of it all, Jesus.
For from You are all things,
And to You are all things,
You deserve the glory!David Brymer, Worthy of it All
Those lyrics refer to this scripture from Romans:
“Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God!
How unsearchable his judgments,
and his paths beyond tracing out!
Who has known the mind of the Lord?
Or who has been his counselor?
Who has ever given to God,
that God should repay them?
For from him and through him and for him are all things.
To him be the glory forever! Amen.”
Romans 11:33-36 (NIV)
Let’s take a look at those two phrases.
From Him Are All Things
Creation itself is so beautiful, intricate, and awe-inspiring, that this is an easy first place to start when offering Him your worship. I mean, just look outside. Or at your hands. Feel your breath coming in and out of your body and contemplate the Being that designed your cardio-respiratory system.
Scripture continually brings us back to God’s perfection demonstrated through that which He made. Enjoy these gorgeous scriptures:
“Yours, LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.”
~ David, 1 Chronicles 29:11
“…yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.”
~ Paul, 1 Corinthians 8:6
“By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, and all the stars by the breath of His mouth.”
Psalm 33:6
To Him Are All Things
Contrary to what the world tells us, and contrary to what our flesh screams at us every day, it’s not about us. No, really; it’s not. We can’t help but think that it is.
We pretty constantly consider from childhood on what we shall do, what we shall wear, how we shall overcome, where we shall go (sound familiar? See Matt 6:33). So it takes an extraordinary, spiritual make-over to realize that everything is actually about Him.
His joy. His glory. His satisfaction.
Scripture helps us out here, providing so many examples. Here are just a few to get us started:
“Ascribe to the LORD, O heavenly beings,
Ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.
Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His name;
Worship the LORD in the splendor of His holiness.”
Psalm 29:1-2
“Bless the LORD, all His angels mighty in strength
who carry out His word,
who hearken to the voice of His command.
Bless the LORD, all His hosts,
you servants who do His will.
Bless the LORD, all His works
in all places of His dominion.
Bless the LORD, O my soul!”
Psalm 103:20-22
“To God, alone wise, be glory through Jesus Christ forever. Amen.”
Romans 16:27
Let Incense Arise
What is the “incense arise” thing all about in the lyrics of this song? We sing this repeatedly at one point. What does it even mean?
Here’s just a bit on the subject. Check out the links provided to learn more!
When God instructed Moses how He wanted the people to worship Him, He included incense as a pleasing aroma sent upward, from the worshiper, up to Almighty God.
“Place the altar in front of the veil that is before the ark of the Testimony—before the mercy seat that is over the Testimony—where I will meet with you.
And Aaron is to burn fragrant incense on it every morning when he tends the lamps.
When Aaron sets up the lamps at twilight, he must burn the incense perpetually before the LORD for the generations to come.”
Exodus 30:6-8
Then, in the book of Revelation, we find that our prayers, the prayers of the saints, are like a pleasing aroma to our Holy God. They are referred to as “incense”.
“And when he took the scroll, the four living beings and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp, and they held gold bowls filled with incense, which are the prayers of God’s people.”
Revelation 5:8
Enjoy a brief overview of incense/prayer for the believer at this website. Our prayers are much more valuable to God than we even think! Doesn’t this knowledge inspire you to pray more? Denise Kohlmeyer, writing on John Piper’s Desiring God website, has some great insight concerning four kinds of incense we believers can offer God. Read about that here.
It is pretty exciting, when you contemplate your prayers joining in with the millions of other prayers, all being offered up in a mingled offering to God. Your prayers are part of that beautiful, soothing incense.
I hope you enjoy this song. Sing it today. Crank it up. Or, whisper it to Him, quietly, just between you and Him.
Either way, may His people find themselves occupied today with that which brings Him pleasure. Our God is worthy of it all.
